Youth and Women Secure KSh 4 Billion in Kenya Power Tenders in One Year

Empowering Marginalized Groups Through Business Opportunities

Kenya Power has awarded KSh 4 billion worth of tenders to youth, women, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the past year, reinforcing its commitment to promoting inclusivity in business.

The state utility firm revealed that the contracts were issued under the Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) program, an initiative aimed at empowering marginalized groups by giving them access to government tenders.

According to Kenya Power, the beneficiaries secured deals across various sectors, including supply of materials, transport services, ICT solutions, and civil works. The initiative aligns with the government’s broader agenda of promoting economic growth through entrepreneurship and job creation.

Kenya Power’s leadership emphasized that the company is actively supporting youth and women-led enterprises, ensuring they participate in national development.

“This initiative is part of our continued efforts to empower underrepresented groups and promote economic inclusivity,” said a Kenya Power spokesperson.

With growing emphasis on supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs), Kenya Power has pledged to increase opportunities for youth, women, and PWDs in future procurement processes.

The achievement highlights the impact of government policies aimed at leveling the economic playing field and fostering sustainable development.
