The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has summoned Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba to appear before its disciplinary committee following allegations of misconduct and party disloyalty.

In an official statement released by UDA Disciplinary Committee Chairperson Charles Njenga, the party cited three separate incidents that allegedly breach the party’s Code of Conduct. Most notably, Orwoba’s presence at the homecoming ceremony of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has raised eyebrows within the party leadership.

According to the statement, Senator Orwoba attended both Matiang’i’s welcoming at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and his rally at Gusii Stadium—events the party views as overt expressions of political allegiance to a rival faction.

The disciplinary notice also referenced Orwoba’s April 22 interview with Spice FM, during which she openly criticized the labour mobility program, a key agenda item under President William Ruto’s administration. UDA claims the comments undermined government policy and questioned her loyalty to the party that nominated her to the Senate.

“Your participation and statements at the above-mentioned events demonstrate allegiance to a competing political movement, and display conduct that contradicts the values and loyalty expected from a UDA-nominated senator,” read part of the disciplinary notice.

UDA Disciplinary Hearing Scheduled

Senator Orwoba has been summoned to appear before the UDA disciplinary committee on Friday, May 16 at 9:00 AM, at the party’s headquarters in Hustler Plaza, Nairobi. She is expected to respond to the allegations and provide justification for her conduct.

The statement further warned that failure to adequately address the concerns could lead to further action:

“If the Committee finds you in violation of the party code, the decision will be forwarded to the National Executive Committee (NEC) for appropriate disciplinary measures.”

What’s at Stake for Orwoba?

The disciplinary process could result in formal censure, suspension, or even expulsion from the party, depending on the findings of the committee. Political analysts say the move signals UDA’s intent to enforce strict internal discipline, particularly as political tensions rise ahead of future elections.
