Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba is set to appear before the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) disciplinary committee today, following accusations that she violated the party’s internal Code of Conduct through recent public actions.
According to a formal statement issued by committee chair Charles Njenga, the senator is being investigated for three main incidents that the party believes undermine its principles and cohesion.
Key among them is her appearance at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to welcome former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, along with her participation in his homecoming event held at Gusii Stadium. Both instances have sparked internal debate within UDA ranks, given Matiang’i’s historical political affiliations and the sensitive timing of the events.
In addition, Orwoba is being scrutinized for comments she made during an April 22, 2025 interview with Spice FM. During the session, she openly criticized the Labour Mobility Program—one of President William Ruto’s flagship policies aimed at enhancing employment opportunities abroad for Kenyan youth.
The disciplinary session is expected to assess whether Senator Orwoba’s remarks and actions amount to insubordination and a breach of party loyalty. UDA emphasized its commitment to ensuring party members uphold collective responsibility, especially in public forums.
This development comes amid growing pressure within UDA to maintain internal discipline and political alignment ahead of the 2027 general elections. The outcome of today’s hearing may set a precedent for how the party handles dissenting voices within its structure.
