President William Ruto will address a joint sitting of Parliament on Thursday, November 20, 2025, in his annual State of the Nation Address, fulfilling a constitutional requirement to report on national progress and values.

According to an official notice signed by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, the session will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the National Assembly Chamber at the Main Parliament Buildings in Nairobi.

“Following a notification by His Excellency Hon. William Samoei Ruto, PhD., C.G.H., President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, the Speakers of both Houses have convened a special sitting on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. for purposes of the President’s address,” the joint notice stated.

The sitting will be held in accordance with Standing Orders 22(2) of the National Assembly and 25(2) of the Senate, which guide the notification procedures for special parliamentary sessions.

Under Article 132(1) of the Constitution, the President is mandated to report annually to the nation on measures taken and progress achieved in realizing national values, as outlined in Article 10. The Head of State is also required to submit to the National Assembly a report for debate on the fulfillment of Kenya’s international obligations.

This year’s address comes as Kenya faces both regional and domestic challenges. The arrest of Kenyan activists in neighboring East African countries has raised human rights concerns, while the recent death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga continues to influence the national political landscape.

President Ruto is expected to highlight key milestones of his administration as it marks three years in office, focusing on achievements in economic transformation, national security, and unity-building initiatives.

His previous address, delivered on November 24, 2024, came during a politically charged period marked by the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The upcoming State of the Nation Address remains one of Kenya’s most significant political events, drawing lawmakers, diplomats, and citizens alike, as the President sets the tone for the country’s policy direction in the year ahead.
