The drive to unseat President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election has brought together key opposition figures, who have pledged to set aside personal ambitions for a unified cause.

During the PLP launch on Thursday, prominent leaders voiced their commitment to forming a grand opposition alliance to challenge the Kenya Kwanza government, aiming to “liberate the country from oppression.”

Speaking in unison, PLP leader Martha Karua, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa, and former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i—represented by Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka—expressed their readiness to support any among them chosen to lead the coalition.

They emphasized the importance of careful planning and strategy in selecting a single candidate to challenge Ruto in the upcoming elections, reaffirming their commitment to unity.

Karua underscored the urgency of their mission, stating that Ruto’s administration must not only be stopped but also replaced by governance that upholds the rule of law.
