Mudavadi Seeks Sh120M to Repatriate Kenyans Stranded in Thailand, Lebanon, and DRC

Government Appeals for Funds to Evacuate Citizens Abroad

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi has announced plans to secure Sh120 million to facilitate the repatriation of Kenyans stranded in Thailand, Lebanon, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The move comes as the government responds to distress calls from citizens facing financial and logistical challenges in these countries. Many of the stranded individuals are reported to have been affected by job losses, visa expirations, and financial constraints, making it difficult for them to return home.

Speaking in Nairobi, Mudavadi emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting Kenyan nationals abroad, ensuring their safe return, and strengthening diplomatic relations with the affected nations. He further urged stakeholders, humanitarian organizations, and the private sector to collaborate in addressing the crisis.

The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs has been working closely with Kenyan embassies to assess the situation and coordinate logistics for the evacuation process. The proposed funds will cover air travel, emergency assistance, and consular support for affected individuals.

This development follows a series of repatriation efforts initiated by the Kenyan government in recent years, aimed at assisting citizens stranded due to economic hardships, conflicts, or restrictive immigration policies in foreign countries.

The Kenyan government, led by Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi, is seeking Sh120 million to facilitate the repatriation of Kenyans stranded in Thailand, Lebanon, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

According to government reports, hundreds of Kenyans in these countries are facing severe financial and legal challenges, leaving them unable to return home. Many are victims of job losses, expired visas, exploitative labor conditions, and travel restrictions that have made their situation increasingly dire.

Mudavadi emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of Kenyan nationals abroad, highlighting the urgent need for financial support to coordinate travel logistics.

“The Kenyan government is actively working with international partners, embassies, and humanitarian organizations to bring our people back home. We are committed to ensuring that no Kenyan is left behind, especially in times of crisis,” Mudavadi stated.
