Despite an extensive Sh650 million refurbishment, Kirigiti Stadium remains inaccessible to the public two years after its completion, sparking frustration among sports enthusiasts, local athletes, and residents.
A State-of-the-Art Facility Left Unused
The Kirigiti Stadium renovation project, initiated to promote local sports and host major events, was expected to boost Kiambu County’s sports infrastructure. The facility features a modern running track, expanded seating capacity, improved drainage systems, and upgraded training facilities. However, two years after construction work was finalized, the stadium remains locked, with no clear communication on its official opening date.
Unanswered Questions Over Delays
Local sports teams and athletes who anticipated utilizing the stadium for training and competitions are left in limbo, as the facility remains non-operational. Concerns have been raised about bureaucratic delays, administrative bottlenecks, and a lack of clear government directives on when the stadium will finally be opened to the public.
“It is frustrating to see such a high-standard facility go unused while young athletes struggle to find proper training grounds,” said a local coach.
Public Outcry and Calls for Action
Residents and sports stakeholders continue to push for answers, urging relevant authorities to fast-track the process of opening the stadium.
