Plans to Expand Fleet to 1,500 by End of 2025
Bolt, the popular ride-hailing platform, has reached a significant milestone with its electric motorbike fleet in Kenya, surpassing 500 electric bikes. This achievement, made possible through a strategic partnership with M-KOPA, accounts for nearly 50% of all electric motorbikes in the country, solidifying Bolt’s position as a leader in sustainable mobility.
The partnership, which transitioned from a pilot program to full-scale implementation in December 2024, has accelerated the adoption of electric motorbikes as a cost-effective and eco-friendly transport option. Bolt now aims to expand the fleet to 1,500 by the end of 2025, ensuring wider availability and meeting the growing demand for electric transport.
A Game-Changer for Drivers
According to Dimmy Kanyankole, General Manager of Bolt Kenya and Tanzania, the expansion is not just about sustainability but also about empowering riders economically.
Challenges & Future Prospects
The initiative has also highlighted the need for better battery swap infrastructure, with demand outpacing the current supply of battery stations in Nairobi. Bolt and its partners are now focusing on expanding battery capacity and charging stations to support the rising number of electric vehicles.
As Bolt continues to push its electrification strategy, this milestone sets the stage for further expansion into other African markets, paving the way for an affordable, cleaner, and more sustainable urban mobility landscape.
