Babu Owino Declares Support for Kalonzo

Nairobi – Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has surprised many by declaring his support for Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s 2027 presidential ambitions, diverging from his long-standing allegiance to ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking on Wednesday, February 26, Owino acknowledged Kalonzo’s commitment to Raila in previous elections and insisted that it was time to reciprocate the support.

“Kalonzo stood with Raila in 2013, 2017, and 2022, yet he received nothing in return. He remained loyal. Is this someone we should betray? We must be fair,” Owino stated.

“Kalonzo’s Time Has Come”

Drawing historical parallels, Owino likened Kalonzo’s political journey to that of Kenya’s past presidents, arguing that unexpected leaders often rise to power.

“Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel Moi, and even Uhuru Kenyatta did not always anticipate leading the country, yet they did. Kalonzo has the same potential, and we must support him,” Owino argued.

He urged his constituents and fellow leaders to back Kalonzo’s bid, stating that his leadership would bring much-needed change to Kenya.

Is Raila Aligning With Ruto?

Meanwhile, Raila Odinga has announced that he will soon disclose his next political move after his unsuccessful bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.

Reports suggest that Raila and President William Ruto have been in discussions, fueling speculation about a potential alliance. Sources close to the ODM leader claim that he is considering joining the Kenya Kwanza government to push for policies that address Kenyans’ concerns.

Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga, Raila’s brother, is said to have played a key role in brokering negotiations between Raila and Ruto. However, the full details of their discussions remain undisclosed.

As the political landscape continues to shift, Babu Owino’s endorsement of Kalonzo raises questions about the future of Raila’s support base and the broader opposition dynamics ahead of the 2027 elections.
