
President William Ruto has been honoured with the CAF President’s Outstanding Achievement Award 2025, recognising his major role in advancing football development in Kenya and contributing to the sport’s growth across Africa.
The award was presented on Wednesday night during the 2025 CAF Awards held in Rabat, Morocco. Kenya’s Ambassador to Morocco, Jessica Gakinya, accepted the accolade on behalf of the President.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed praised the recognition, noting that the government’s investment in football infrastructure and talent development is laying the foundation for future continental success.
“With the support structures being put in place, I have no doubt our players will soon be recipients of these coveted accolades,” he said.
The ceremony also honoured Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni for their commitment to strengthening football institutions and supporting continental initiatives.
CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe commended the three East African leaders for their outstanding dedication to the growth of African football.
Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda jointly hosted the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), an event that showcased enhanced stadium facilities, strengthened logistics, and improved operational planning. Kenya is also gearing up to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
During the same ceremony, Nigeria’s Super Falcons won Women’s Team of the Year, while Chiamaka Nnadozie received Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year. Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi was crowned CAF Men’s Player of the Year, and Ghizlane Chebbak won Women’s Player of the Year.
